This product was easy to set up with the Installation CD and is easy to use once set up. It occasionally breaks Internet connection, but can be easily re-connected by going to the Wireless Networks window.

It worked great - but when I bought I had an older computer and OS and needed to buy an extra piece to link this to it. I didn't know that in advance so there was a significant delay in being able to put this to use.

Other than that it worked great. I switched to a different provider so I don't need/ use it now.

I bought this router twice. First time it I started having trouble after 13 months and the store where I bought it wouldn't exchange it. Second time it started disconnecting me periodically from the Internet after 13 months and then I tried contacting Customer Service. Not only they requested money for their assistance but the first representative hang up on me when i requested to talk to a supervisor and when i got to a dead-end with the second one and I was tranferred to a supervisor I was hung up on by the supervisor himself! Cisco- Linksys provide Customer Service from India. Some of the representatives are impossible to understand and obviously the culture allows them to hang up on the customer.

I suggest you buy it only if you are extremely computer savvy and can fix it yourself.

Neither came with an install disc for the driver.I also tried going to the site to download the driver and searched the web.It is all BS,please save yourself the trouble oh hours of frustration.If anyone has the disc/driver let me know.

Although it wouldn't immediately work, a call to Linksys put me through an automated system that timed out as I walked through the steps to set up my router. I was transferred to a representative while waiting for the router to reset; after his instructions were followed, everything worked as expected. I have a typical ethernet jack from my motherboard and my fiancee has a newly-bought wireless card. We were playing WoW together the next day with no problems from the router.

Setup was easy. Didn't see much difference in the speed between my previous Netgear G router and this. Range is a bit better

Gave a few issues initially. Upgraded to the latest firmware patch and stabilized after that. Not any major issues but I will prefer Netgear if I have to buy again.

I bought this refurbished router (mine is version 3) and downloaded the newest firmware from the manufacturer's website (Linksys). The router looked like new out of the box. It has been working flawlessly, with a connection speed of 144 mbps (I am currently using wireless security WPA2). It is definitely a very good deal, if you don't mind upgrading the firmware yourself, which is very straight forward.

Got this as a refurb product and started noticing all sorts of problems- the signal would drop a lot, the signal would stop broadcasting, etc. You need to upgrade the firmware for this product in order to get it to work correctly. Afterwards, everything works fine. It's not difficult to do, but if you're not a tech savvy person then I would refrain from purchasing it. Here's a link to upgrade the firmware using DD-WRT:

Received the refurbhished router in 4-5 days and I was waiting eagerly for this in my new rented apt. Interestingly the wireless didn't work at all. I tried to root cause it in the typical engineering way and later took Linksys support as well - no way we could make the wireless part work even with hours of debug. So now all in the return box back to Amazon! May be I shouldn't have gone for "refurbhished one", or may be I was just unlucky :-(

"very limited range" 2010-01-11

The setup utility failed to run for me, it told me I was having cable problems. I was sure the cable connections were fine, so I just filled out the web setup information myself and everything started working. Hard wired operation has been fine but wireless performance has been spotty. The machine's range is quite limited. I can barely use a laptop to connect to the Internet in the room right next to the room with this router. I added two Linksys transponders to get better coverage. The transponders gave me better coverage but they seem to drop off the net a couple of times a week. I have to reset them to get them to work again. Overall, I haven't been very happy with this product and I've been looking into replacing it.

"Random Invalid URL errors" 2010-01-10

I have version 3 and the latest firmware installed. But it seems like the router has some problems with the DNS. Sometime it redirected a site to an IP belong to Akamai Technologies and caused the Invalid URL error. All the computer in the network had the same error when going to the site that got redirected, not just one computer. Only rebooting the router will fix the problem. I did a search on the web and other people are having the same problem too. When I tried to ping a site that displays the invalid URL error, it returned the IP 96.17.107.17, which is not the IP of the site. I did a whois and that IP belonged to Akamai Technologies. I opened that IP with a browser and it displayed that same Invalid URL error. Somehow the router redirected a site's IP to an IP belonged to Akamai Technologies. The wireless connection dropped once in a while too. My old Linksys router worked much better than this one. I'm going to return it and never buy a Linksys router again.

The setup program on the CD would not work. I then had the worst tech support experience in my life! First I paid $9 for the support which did not work. Then I started doing everthing I was told to do. When nothing helped the tech disconnected me! I assumed that was just an accident, but when it happened with the second tech I woke up. The third tech concluded the router was defective and gave me the Customer Service number. That menu leads right back to tech service and a fourth person. All told I spent over 10 hours jumping through hoops and by that time I didn't even have the internet connection I started with. The fourth rech did all the same things that didn't work before. I had asked for a supervisor but was stonewalled for quite some time until I lost my temper. The supervisor told me I could get a new product by paying $9.99 and the postage to return the DEFECTIVE router. All in all a miserable experience. Don't do it.

I went from a Linksys "G" router that was working fine (other than range)to a new Linksys "N" router to try to cover a tought reception area of my house. Bottom line: things improved slightly, but not as much as I anticipated (hoped). On the positive side, setup was very smooth. Router installations have come a long way in the past few years.

"unreliable and poor customer service" 2010-01-12

I bought this router about 6 months ago. It was very easy to install and setup. I haven't had any problems getting anything connected to it, but what makes it horrible:

1) after only 6 months I lose all connectivity (wired and wireless) on average twice per day. I have to power-cycle to fix it. I upgraded it to the latest firmware 1.0.04, but that didn't help.

2) customer service is terrible. I did online chat which worked well, but all they did was have me switch mtu from 1500 to 1492 and said to call back if the problem didn't go away and request an RMA. I called today, but there was no RMA option so I picked support. I told the tech I needed an RMA only to have to give all of my information again just so she could tell me I selected the wrong option on the phone menu and I needed to call back. I'm now on hold waiting for customer support and the message is saying "you can't get an RMA without an RMA code from Tech Support" (and no they didn't give me one). Now that is bad service!

This wireless broadband router is a great deal for the money. Installation is smooth and easy. The network magic software that is shipped with this item is a trial version and needs to be purchased to make full use.

I have a cox broadband connection and hooked this wireless router up to it. Worked great for the first few days, then it kept getting disconnected. I know this is not the router's issue, but cox. They seem to be able to jam the linksys routers.

I have now returned this item, not because it is a bad product, but because of the cox issue above. If you have the same problem, get an apple airport express or extreme.

I am pretty tech savy. But cannot get this installed. Also, about an hour after trying to configure, my laptop became engulfed with viruses. Scanned the CD, seems to be virus free. Not sure if this is a related or just bad timing. But my laptop has not been the same since and I have no wireless. Not impressed!

Nice looking router. Unfortunately it simply does not work with VPNs so do not purchase for remote work use (telecommuting etc.). I spent days reconfiguring this, upgrading firmware etc. and could not get it to work with my VPN. Research on the web suggests this is a known issue [...]

Otherwise it's a nice looking and decent product.

Linksys are great product once setup but I had problem with mine due to some IP conflict which I had to call India to resolve. The company must be using some cheap VoIP type phone because you can hardly hear the customer service person and they can hardly hear you. Anyway, the router cannot connect to my verizon DSL modem but it was a simple changing of the IP address of the router but only if you knew this is the problem. I think this is a commom problem and Linksys should anticipate this in their setup process.

Everything arrived on time as expected - I should have done more research though, because if I want to buy some kind of gaming console and have that wireless, I will need a more powerful router. I can't comment on how the product works; I had bought it to use with my Vonage service... only to find that Vonage doesn't work with this router. I found it odd that Linksys customer support (who spent a significant amount of time trying to help me with the problem) was not aware of this. So, I hope this will help prevent others from making the same mistake and having to return the router, as I did.

I read the previous review. I'm the second. I've owned many Linksys routers and wireless access points, as well as hubs. This is my favorite so far. It doesn't get released in stores until late summer/early fall 2009. The gentlemen before me wrote about how it's not compatible with Vonage. That's true. BECAUSE it's a VOIP router in itself. I know that it's used by a company called Elevate Comm that launches in April (a month from now). That's how I got it. Great router, great price, easy to use and setup, as well as great range. I use it it my house, which is 12000 square feet, and I get signal everywhere. Which is better than I can say about my netgear routers.

This is a good wireless router with 2 phone ports, but unfortunately it is not compatible with the Vonage telephone system so I had to return it and get the D-Link VWR that is made specifically for Vonage. I don't think it is as good a product as the Linksys, but the phone ports wouldn't work. The ethernet and wireless worked flawlessly for the few days that I was trying to figure out some way to make it work with Vonage.

Don't believe me -test it yourself. I was able to access the router's setup pages via my public (ISP assigned) IP address! Remote management was disabled, and therefore the router should be accessible only via the internal network address, 192.168.2.1. To find your ISP assigned IP address, google "my ip address" and then stick the IP address your browser. If the router page comes up, then anyone on the internet can login (since password default is "blank") and change the router's setup . Now I wonder if files on the attached storage drive is also be vulnerable. My router's model F5D8235-4 v3 with firmware 3.00.15 (Nov 24 2009).

This product was fairly simple to set up (I'm a beginner when it comes to computer set-up, which I attribute to the few problems I did have). Since then the speed has been great and the range is awesome. I'm able to keep my device upstairs while operating at almost instant internet speed downstairs. I also have not had any problems with intermittent service-overall I would highly recommend this product!

"It's an OK wireless router" 2010-01-02

I had been using a Linksys "B" router and it was definitely time to upgrade. I was really apprehensive reading all of the reviews on the various models on the market. Every model seemed to have some percentage of users experiencing horror stories trying to make the unit work. I chose this unit because it had the smallest percentage of overall one star ratings. With this unit I also bought the Belkin Wireless N+ USB adapter with the hopes that the two would play well together.

Hooking up the router was no big deal. I have three wired computer on my network and once everything started up, they all connected OK. The router set up screen accessed via the broswer is fairly well arranged. Each screen and option has a "more info" link to better explain the feature.

OK, now the wireless part. I got the USB adapter hooked up on the wireless desktop and installed the software. I used the WPA link option to get the USB device authenicated with the router. For the first week or two, it seemed to be working fine. Now it keeps trying to access the network using the "Guest Access" instead of the regular authenticated connection. Since this is leading into a review of the USB device, I'll leave it at that. The Belkin USB device is not working with the Beklin router like I hoped. I have two other wireless laptops using Linksys "G" PCMCIA cards and a couple of other wireless devices (a Pocket PC and a PS3) and they all seem to connect fine.

The range on this device was disappointing. It is sitting the same spot as my old Linksys B router, and the range is worse. If I get more than 50 feet away, the signal drops to nothing. I am still experimenting with placing it higher up in the room, but little improvement has been noticed. There are no metal obstructions between the router and the laptop when testing this, so I don't know why it has such poor range.

The indicator lights on the front convey lot of information, but the bright blue lights are extremely bright, especially in a dark room.

Overall, I expected more for what I paid for this router. I hope I can eventually find a way to extend the range and make it more effective for wireless users in other parts of the house.

"Amazing upgrade from wireless G!" 2010-01-01

I had a wireless G linksys router (linksys wrt54g) before I upgraded to this. I live in a 3 story house and my router was on the 2nd floor in the study. The signal was very weak on the 3rd floor and it would always disconnect.

Setup:

Fairly easy, connected to the modem and everything ran perfectly (you don't need that crappy CD it comes with unless you're using the storage manager).

If you guys are having trouble getting you xbox NAT open, put it in a DMZ, that'll get it out of the firewall and other things that block the connection to xbox live.

In the setup (got to 192.168.2.1 as default) it lets you setup a guest network. That allows you to broadcast 2 wifi networks, one for all your own electronics/computers and the other for your guests. If you're connected to the guest network, it doesn't lets you access local things and makes it a lot safer. (It only lets you surf the web.)

Speed:

WOW. When I did a speedtest ([...]) it went from 2 mbps to 15 mbps and now my wireless is as fast as my wired connection (but not locally of course).

Unfortunately if your equipment doesn't have a wireless n adapter, it'll just max out at 54 mpbs.

Range:

Doubled. That's all I can say. Disconnection doesn't exist anymore.

Design:

Love the blue buttons and it looks 5 times better than any other router I've seen. Not really big at all if you have enough space.

Storage Manager:

Great feature if you can set it up. Took couple of hours and was the only con. It allows you to connect a external hard drive to the router via usb and allow you to access it on any computer in your home network. Belkin has to fix the software, there's like a 50% chance it'll work. I installed it on my win7 machines, but I keep getting an error on win xp.

Wrap-Up:

If you already have a wireless N router, it probably won't be a huge difference. But upgrading from an a,b, or g will release the true potential of your internet speed and range. There are also so many features that I can't cram into this review too. I would highly recommend this to anyone!

Works reliably in my house with all the devices I use it with, both wired and wireless. Bit rates are quite decent as well.

Primary negative in my opinion is that it doesn't have ANY support for monitoring your WAN bandwidth utilization. With Bandwidth CAPs common nowadays routers in this price range should have something to monitor your usage, and this one doesn't. It doesn't even support SNMP statistics which would allow some other programs to do the logging for you.

Not good enough.

The router and Ethernet switch functionality is fine, but the wireless is absolutely godawful.

From the get-go the DHCP server has been very finicky about giving out IP addresses to wireless devices. Sometimes my laptop and my PS3 can get on the network just fine, other times I have to reset the router.

The signal strength has been so-so, although recently it seems to have degraded significantly. My PS3 is about 15 feet away from the router, and until a couple of days ago I could get decent throughput over wireless.

However, now it's to the point where I have to connect my PS3 to the router via Ethernet, as the wireless is practically unusable. Just pinging the router from my laptop at the same distance as the PS3 shows a 27% packet drop rate - unbelievable.

Needless to say, I'm buying another router, and it's not going to be a D-Link.

I bought this as a black friday cheap upgrade from my old wireless b system and it has been working absolutely great.

don't use the cd that comes with the product - somehow that cd did not make any sense when i tried to follow instruction.

installation would have been a breeze if I had just followed the 4 step easy set up sheet.

Overall, the product is working great, signal has not dropped even once in over a month and I get much better reception throughout my hose.

My old D-Link router was giving out after several years, so I bought this one as a replacement. What a disaster! The set up program kept crashing during set up, so it took me almost 6 hours to finally get the darn thing working. It worked fine for a week or so. Then I kept having problems with all of my connections (notebook, netbook, wireless printer, PS3, and Wii). It got to the point where I had to reboot the router every time I wanted to get online, play a game, or print anything. Buyer beware!

Could not figure out this router. At my fiancee's house this thing would lock up the internet connection for all wired users but be ok only on the wireless. Would have to pull the plug to get the internet back but then would lock up after only a few minutes again. Tried all the tricks I found on the internet, but still crashed. Put a Netgear in it's place which works perfectly. What's odd is it works fine in my house with both wireless and wired connections. Deducted couple of stars for this odd behavior, but again in my house it works just fine as did my previous Linksys wired broadband router. The browser interface is workabe but now that I've seen the Netgear, feel the Netgear's browser interface is a little more friendly and polished.

Don't buy this router. I purchased this router because I wanted the latest technology, and it looked "cooler" than the other router designs.

The router works great with my wired desktop, and new Dell wireless laptop. The speed is incredible. However, when you try to connect more than 1 wireless laptop, that has an older wireless adapter, you will have problems connecting. The laptops will hang at "acquiring network address". If you turn on both laptops, then things will connect.

Please visit the linksys website, and do a search for "WRT54GR"...you will see what I am talking about.

We use one of these for tradeshows to connect multiple computers at the booth and can share the connection with our colleagues in other booths. When the wife and I travel, we can be on the internet on separate laptops. If a client is without internet for whatever reason, this can serve them for a short time days until they are back online.

It's easy to setup and with the firmware update never drops the connection to Sprint.

I was looking at a booster, and read everything I could before I bought one. I was hoping it would work out because returning things is such a hastle! Lucky for me, I picked a good one, and it's a keeper!

I live in an old house, with THICK WALLS and it was hard to get a signal anywhere other than right in the room where the wireless is... now I am 4 rooms away, and my computer says "excellent" and works much faster... before it said VERY LOW. This is great! I bought this product, really because I bought a Roku box, that thing from Netflix, and the connection would NOT reach it... this is a wonderful boost, and now my son can watch DORA episodes any time he wants, and it hardly ever reconnects. Some times I have to unplug the product from the wall and plug it back in... "reset" but only twice and I have had it a few months. It's great! EASY to setup, and EASY to place. I want another one for the other side of the house.

I have used a range of Linksys products over the years but I've never encountered anything like this WRE54G Wireless-G Range Expander. Before purchase I noted the polarity of the reviews regarding this item, but based on prior experience and satisfaction I thought it was worth a try. How wrong I was! Though I used the WRE54G with a Linksys wireless-G router, planned the placement of all network gear carefully according to the Linksys instructions, and even tried the automatic setup, no connection could be established. Hours of manually attempting to get reliable communication between the router and the WRE54G resulted in a completely unreliable signal--now strong, now missing altogether. I finally gave up attempting insrtallation on my own and started a chat with a Linksys agent. That person displayed hardly any familiarity with the range expander and its possible problems. After spending 3/4 of an hour going around in a circle, I closed the chat.

The very poor documentation for this item leads me to suppose that Cisco really could't care less about the more unusual equipment Linksys offers. I think in future I'll think twice before purchasing from this source. They aren't the only game in town.

As some one who considers himself highly technical I read the reviews of this product and the problems people had with little concern....I thought I would have no real issues getting it going. Of course, I was wrong.

It is not a complicated product in itself as the config is more basic than a regular wifi router....but the documentation is pretty much useless. I wanted to use the setup utility that comes on the cd rather than the auto-config, but that would not even see my wifi network whether I was using an ethernet cable or the wifi. So I HAD to use the auto-config and eventually got it to work that way after probably an hour of messing around.

The key for me was to follow these steps:

1) Disable all security on your regular wifi router. Enable SSID broadcast. At this point your wifi is wide open.

2) Plug in extender close to your regular router, press auto-config button. After a few seconds both lights should turn blue.

3) Get into extender by typing 192.168.1.240 in your browser.

4) At login screen there is no username, pwd is 'admin'.

5) Change all security settings to how you want them on your regular router. Save settings

At this point your extender will lose connectivity and the link light will turn red.

6) Change security settings on your regular router back to what they originally were.

Router & extender settings should be the same.

7) Power off extender for a few seconds. Power it on again.

8) Extender SHOULD come back with both lights blue.

9) Power off extender again and move it to eventual location.

If the documentation had been clearer about powering off & on once config had changed I would have been fine....but instead it indicates that all you need to do is make the changes and you're good to go.

Anyway, the extender is now working well and does exactly what it says it is supposed to do, that's the main thing. But it could have been easier.

3 hours trying to install. Two calls to Linksys' 800 number. Finally, gave up. Interesting additional annoyance. When I run setup, my laptop never sees the Expander, but to really stick it to me, it prevents my laptop from using the wireless router at all - even after I disconnect the Expander. Doesn't work by wireless or cable connect. Recycled power, played around with settings, nothing seemed to work. Finally, hit the right combination and now at least I can use the router again.

The one button set up was a scam and not to disappointing based on what I read. Nearly had it by myself but needed to run the install from a second computer not directly connected to base router. Don't know if I would have discovered that variable for a while. Set up was easy once I got through to cisco helpdesk and turned it over to them. They were helpful for an additional $10.00. I guess it was worth the money considering the time factor to setup. It works fine I have good signal strength where I need it. I guess if it were easy we would not need tech support; what would they do for a living? Chase stray cats?

The set up was straightforward on Vista. The product worked well for a couple of months. After that, no matter what I've tried, it has not worked. Since I use my laptop with the modem cable directly connected to it most of the time, this hasn't been a bother...until recently.

So I go to the Belkin site where a product locator allowed me to find this router easily enough. But then...nothing. The picture and name of this product came up but no links to drivers or anything.

I am just going to buy a new router from a different company.

I have been using the Belkin wireless router for about a week. It was very easy to setup. I inserted the disk into an XP desktop that is connected via an ethernet cord to the router and followed the onscreen directions. Setup took less than 10 minutes including security setup. I am using both an XP laptop and a windows 7 laptop on the router and both worked immediately with no quirks. I live in a 1000 square foot apartment and have excellent reception throughout my apartment. The router is on one end of the apartment and there is signal even on the far end of the apartment.

Don't get me wrong, there is a method of getting this to work using Vista, but I couldn't get the unit to stay online long enough to use the internet site that'll allow you to set this thing up. Very frustrating. But I did find out as a result, that Amazon has a really good return policy that I took advantage of. Then I bought a Linksys router that was a snap.

Belkin is a well-known manufacturer of electronics and telecom equipment. They fabricate many different kinds of telecom cables, including Category 5. The Cat 5 cord pictured is a low profile, where the insulated connection between the cable and the modular pins, provides protection against damage. Unfortunately like many others, the cord I received does not have factory terminated pins. Substituting a cheaper, lower quality item is misrepresentation at best, and fraudulent at worst.

For Cat 5 cables, improper termination is one of the most common reasons for reduced transmission rates, or cable failure. Cables are supposed to be tested for compliance with industry standards, before being sold. On average, a non-insulated connection is more likely to fail, because the cable can more easily be bent or twisted.

I bought a factory terminated cord on eBay, made in China, for three dollars. The packaging states that the cord had been `Verified to ETA/TIA 568' standards. Unlike the Belkin cord, which had no statement about testing. I paid half as much and got a better quality item, so when I need another cable, I won't be buying this one again.

Seems like misrepresentation is going on here. The incorrect image should be pulled, or replaced with an accurate one. It's not worth my time to return the Belkin cable. The cord works, but I didn't get what I expected, and I would be wary about purchasing any other cords made by Belkin.

This was a very nice product overall. I agree with most of the positive reviews thus far. The unit overheats. I am on my second one. It is now overheating even in wintertime in an unheated apartment in western Japan. It will work for about 5 minutes then lock up when the temperature inside the unit gets too high. This is not a defect in this unit. The last unit had a similar problem but overheated in summertime and melted down. This unit melted down its wireless transceiver about 3 months ago but I could still use the ethernet ports for the last few months. Now those also appear to be failing. I can only say that this appears to be bad design for cooling. It really is ONLY a travel router. I was using it 24x7 for Internet access while overseas this time and also with the last unit 2 years ago. Don't buy this unit for constant operation. It can't take the continued use. It will overheat and fail.

UPDATE 3/15/09 - Unit has completely burnt out about 2 months ago. Replaced it with a $29 IO Data brand box that isn't nearly as nice (but at least it doesn't turn to toast).

This router is terrific. I read reviews on many travel routers and this one lives up to the hype. After it is configured, it is just "plug it in and it works" (configuration isn't too hard, but only needs to be done once). I've used it several places and it is great. Good signal through several walls (using it right now at my in-laws house, making their cable wireless for my stay).

This was an impulse buy for me. My logic at the time of purchase was that I could pre-configure it as a grab and run WAP and throw it up wherever and whenever a quick and dirty hot spot was needed in our four floor public building. The fact that it had limited range was more a plus than a liability. After all, it was designed for a limited area such as a hotel or a conference room.

I was surprised with the configuration and security options which matched those of the general purpose WRT54G and secondly, at least my unit has fantastic coverage. When placed on the second floor I get about 200' coverage in every direction and ample bandwidth using up to 10 notebooks.

I'm amazed at the number of speakers who appear for seminars, lectures and training sessions assuming the availability of wireless Internet. Most initially try to connect with their cellular solutions but quickly abandon them in favor of the WAP. In that regard this little travel router has been a God send.

I have had it about a year now and it has been quite reliable.

"Easy setup, near trouble-free operation, happy overall - DNS issues update" 2009-05-27

I ordered the WRT54G2 'refurbished' (not from this vendor) because I wanted a replacement for my 801.11b Linksys and the refurbished could be had for a significantly lower price and the product was Linksys certified and came with a 90-day warranty. To my surprise - I expected some glitches - I had close to zero problem installing and operating it. Here is my experience.

- I followed the advice to first run the installation off the provided CD.

- Even though all of my computers are wireless, I followed the advice and connected one of my computer to the router via Ethernet to perform the initial installation.

- After disconnecting the old 801.11b router I used the exact same name for the new network. This allowed for all devices to connect immediately, as soon as the setup completed.

- I made sure that the DHCP server was on.

- The end of setup. All devices, including the wireless printer and the VOIP box connected without a problem.

To my surprise, LELA is not on the CD. It took me longer to find, download and install LELA (Linksys EasyLink Advisor) than to complete the initial setup. I strongly recommend that you do install LELA because, besides the nice graphic of your home network it allows you to restore broken connections without having to turn off the router.

As far as performance is concerned, I believe that I notice a slight but not significant improvement over my old 801.11b router. We have about one dozen connected devices: desktops, laptops, a PS3, a PSP, VOIP, printer and, with all on, everything worked just fine. With the router in the basement, I had '3-bars' on a computer 15-20 feet from the router. Surprisingly, I had 3 bars on the first and on the second floor as well and I had the same 3 bars outside, about 90 feet from the router, by the pool. The old router gave me 4 bars in the basement but only 3 bars in the rest of the house and only 1 or 2 bars with intermittent disconnections outside the house.

With LELA running, I was able to quickly fix the the few disconnections that occurred over a several-days period without having to power off the router. This was better than my old 801.11b that had me power off the cable modem and the router whenever the connection to the Internet stopped working. Disconnections do occur after computers are set to 'sleep' but recovery is usually quick when the computer wakes up. I never had issues with non-computer devices such as printer, PS3 or the VOIP box.

Overall, I am very happy with my new router so far. It's probably as good as any 801.11g device can get.

DNS issues update:

With DHCP, strangely, after a few months of operation, the router began to 'forget' about passing DNS queries to the outside server. It KNOWS about the 3 DNS servers the ISP has but, out of the blue I get 'resolving host' errors and LELA claims that I'm no longer connected to the Internet. This while VoIP, connected to the same router works without a problem and so do the PS3 and my kids computers.

The initial 'solution' was to power off the router and then power it back on.

I have no idea why this was happening yet but, this is my quick solution: on the 'Network and Sharing Center' click on your connection 'View status' then 'Properties', highlight 'Internet Protocol Version 4...', 'Properties', 'Advanced', from the DNS tab click on 'Add...' and enter all the DNS servers that your router has listed under 'Status'.

This eliminated all problems.

"Works as expected, but no instructions" 2009-10-02

This access point works well as a repeater for a Linksys wireless router. My only complaint is that it didn't come with any useful instructions, so I had to call them to get help setting it up. The instructions simply said to run the CD and follow directions, and the CD configures the access point in a way that requires a wired connection.

The CD is not really needed: just connect the access point to your router with an ethernet cable and point your browser to 192.168.1.245.

This unit installed fairly easily. I mounted it in a first floor closet where it now provides an excellent signal to the entire first and second floors (my base wireless router takes care of the family room floor in the basement).

HOWEVER, I find that I constantly have to power it on and off to get my portables back online when they have been "asleep" for awhile - so frequntly that I installed a power bar in the closet just so I wouldn't have to unplug the Access Point to reboot it. None of the standard approches to "fix" the connection from the computers themselves works. One portable is an IBM using XP while the other is an HP using Vista, so it's apparently not an operating system or hardware issue. Besides these same computers did not have this problem connecting to my base router (also a Lynksys, although older), before I bought the Access Point.

"Setup - How to Fix Setup problem" 2009-09-06

The Linksys setup works ONLY if your computer can access Linksys' default 192.168.1.245 address. If your host address is 192.168.0.xxx, you cannot reach the configuration page.

After many attempts, I found a relatively easy fix (at least on XP -I didn't try this on Vista). XP allows multiple addresses on the same network port. Go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections. Right click on Local Area Connection > Properties > Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties. On the Properties page, click Advanced, then under IP Addresses click Add. Add a new address in the 192.168.1.x range (e.g. 192.168.1.2)with a mask of 255.255.255.0. Click OK on each screen to close the dialogues.

Then connect the Linksys to the switch or hub (if you have one) with ethernet cable or connect the computer to the Linksys with a crossover cable. Proceed with the setup via the CD. Or you can open your browser and type the Linksys address: 192.168.1.245 and proceed (initial password is admin). You can then change the address if desired, set up a new password, and configure your other settings.

Once I finally figured this out, it was easy to configure and the WAP works well! The lack of setup information is the problem! I hope this helps other purchasers.

"Does Not Work; Impossible to Set Up" 2009-08-20

I ordered this item to provide my house with wireless internet. After it arrived, I took it out of the box. The instructions read "insert the enclosed CD and follow the on-screen instructions." I put the CD in. When the icon appeared on the desktop, I opened it. There were no instructions! Instead, I was presented with a baffling array of 13 different icons, none of which had self-explanatory names. So I called the 1-800 technical help number. Over approximately half an hour, I spoke (with difficulty) to two different women located in the Philippines. Both spoke English with a heavy accent, and at times I had trouble understanding them. I was asked my name, my telephone number, and the model and serial numbers for this device. I was asked who my internet provider was. I was also asked "how I was" today, thereby pointlessly wasting both my time and theirs. I spent all of the 30 minutes answering THEIR questions, but was never told how to install or set up this device. Instead, I was informed that this device would not, in fact, provide me with wireless internet as advertised. So, there you go. If you are a technical person, then perhaps you can figure out for yourself how to install this thing. But I would not recommend this device for the average person. It will not provide you with wireless internet, and you will get no help from customer service.

I've given up on this product. The installation CD's first window was a mystery on what process to select since none showed as "installation". Called toll free number. Answered eventually (after enduring endless menu) by person who clearly spoke English as a second language. 30 min. on the phone later, I just gave up,thanked the guy for his time and ended the call. At one point I wondered if my call had prompted a hidden camera joke where eventually someone would tell me a joke had been played on me and the person I was speaking with really was Not a tech support rep etc.etc. I was absolutely worn out after dealing with Linksys's customer support for new installations. I had to repeat every sentence the guy said in an effort to confirm his instructions and then steps later, he would change his mind and have me un do something he had instructed me to do previously. After 30 min. on phone I questioned what to do with an included cable that he had not mentioned.When he told me it should have been installed many steps prior, I knew it was time to stop this torture. It was truly unbelievable ! End result: I am donating this unit to a local youth home,and buying another brand highly recommended to me by my neighbor who installed a wireless network in his home without any calls to tech support or any problems.I read scathing reports about the poor installation software on various Linksys products and now I am a believer. However poor the installation CD is, live tech support is worse....worthless, in fact.If you are not tech savy, I can't recommend using this product based on my installation misadventure.

"Firmware bugs and reliability issues" 2008-04-15

I purchased three of these units and used them for about 6 months. The WAP200 is not a quality product. There is a firmware bug in the unit that produces a ton of broadcast ping's throughout the network. After 6 months, Linksys posted a firmware update to address this problem. After attempting to update the firmware on two of my units, neither of them work. After reading the forum postings, it appears that this is a common problem with this model. I called Linksys to troubleshoot the problem on the phone. After 45 minutes I finally spoke to a person on the other side of the planet. They were not helpful at all. After talking on the phone with their technician for 30 minutes, the call was disconnected. I replaced these units with cheap Belkin Wireless G routers and set it to "Access Point" mode. The Belkin units have better range and are far more reliable.

The WAP200 is a terrible product.

Needs work. I first installed firmware 1.0.22 and then configured for a simple AP. After a few minutes I noticed that my wireless internet connection was slowing to a stand still from 5megs to 120kb and back to 5megs. I also checked my Xbox 360 by attempting to access pictures from the Twonky media server, and the Xbox 360 would just hang (this worked just fine with my old AP). Then I attempted to configure VLAN, which upon saving the AP restarted. After the AP rebooted the wireless SSID changed to "MY AP" with no security, but looking at the configuration page it only listed my SSID with security enabled. Reboot again and my SSID was being broadcasted with security. I'm returning the unit back to Amazon. Cool features, but needs lots of work.

other reviewers have covered the good feature set of this unit. it's a good small business model. I was most impressed with it's inclusion of 4 separate SSIDs with selective isolation and security.

it has a great range. was able to cover an entire 7500 sq ft. machining facility with plenty of mechanical noise with just one unit in the middle.

cons: for me, the first unit I got would only transmit for 20 minutes before isolating itself from the gateway and the rest of the network. it eventually devolved into not responding at all. however, Amazon returns dept. took great care of me and the replacement seems to be working fine.

Buying an access point (or wireless equiment for that matter) is a tricky business since you never know how the different devices in the network will work together and setups it also a comfusing business...

I decided to buy this product after reading several buyers reviews that recommended this product.

I live in a three floors house and I have a Linksys router (WRT300N) in the upper floor. In order to deploy the wireless network aroud the house i bought two Linksys access points (WAP200) and placed each of them in a different floor. Setup was VERY easy, even with a WEP encryption.

The reception is excellent and I have full reception even through very think walls.

Nevertheless, when walking around the house, my laptop losses connection to the network and i have to manually "Repair" the connection in order to connect to the Internet again.

Bottom Line:

I needed to wirelessly network a Brooklyn Brownstone approximately 45' long by 100 feet tall 4 floors. Initially started with the Netgear

RANGEMAX WIRELESS ROUTER Netgear RangeMax Wireless Router (WPN824)because of the advertised (last year Sept)

-MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) technology boosts network performance with up to 10x the speed and 10x the coverage of Wireless-G

Result: Signal traveled straight up to the upper floor without a problem, but could not reach the rooms from the middle to the front of the house 2nd ,3rd ,or 4th floors (Comcast cable modem placed on the second floor back). Mysteriously connections would drop without reason from time to time. Theory Comcast equipment was causing that problem, too, wireless phone and fax interference too being the possible gremlins.

Phase 2-Linksys Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G

used 3 Linksys Wireless G Extenders to act as repeaters on the upper floors. Could only manage to get a strong signal partially to the second floor but signal was intermittent. Could only link two extenders but the second, again dropped the signal intermittently and the dreaded `limited or no connectivity' message began. Observation proved these messages materialized while roaming-connecting to the second or third node (first node being Netgear WPN824). Though the signal was seen (in some cases very good) Netgear had a time issuing IP addresses past the first node.

Phase 3, after spending 1 whole day surfing the net for info. I decided to start anew....after much comparing and no reviews to go by. I decided on the Linksys WAP 200 because of its versatility and advertised signal strength - it could be an accesspoint, a repeater, or a bridge...and because I had the G extenders from Linksys that I became familiar with....

200AP 2 Linsys WAP200

Setup 1- Continue the Netgear as the Ethernet to cable box, wireless access point, with DHCP server, using the 2 200's as repeaters. The main problem, after becoming familiar with the WAP200 was still the `Limited or no connectivity' message. I `trial and erred' the settings ,I observed a correlation between RIP and the error msg. I also noted the msg occurring much more on my older lap (XP home), vs my girl friends newer (XP) lap.

Setup 2- using the Netgear as the DHCP server, Ethernet to cable box SWITCH. One of the 200's would account for a wireless access point (located on the second floor, 2 ft from the Netgear), the other a 200 a Repeater (3rd floor hall...I added a Hawking Technology's HAI15SC,Hawking HAI15SC 15dBi Hi-Gain Directional Corner Antenna 2.4GHz Hi-Gain Wireless Corner Antenna, boosts your wireless signal strength from 2dBi (standard) to 15dBi to the second floor 200...didn't think I needed it). This configuration covered the whole house, there were a few low signal readings at the extreme ends on the 4th floor 3ft from the front window , which I intended to eliminate with the Linksys G Extender.

Which brings me to the only concern- AP Mode gives you the opportunity to use the 200 in either 1 of 3 modes

AP Mode Screen

Use this screen to configure the Access Point mode. The three available modes are Access Point, Wireless Repeater, and Wireless Bridge.

The 200 that was used as the wireless access point needed the MAC address of the 200 used as a Repeater (in Repeater mode-- max 3 MAC addresses). Adding the address of the second wap200 (as Repeater) was'nt an issue, all worked perfectly. When I added the MAC addresses of the G Extenders `Limited connectivity' messages again appeared, I tried various combo's including changing the order but always a problem...perhaps the repeaters have to be legit repeaters or WAP200's...anywho I found this interesting and will be taking the 3 extenders back to Best Buy

Conclusions-

overall I found the Linksys WAP 200 a really good product. I don't believe you have to know the nuts and bolts about networking to get the WAP200 up and running. The documentation will not be of help to a newbie, but if you google your concerns you may learn a thing or two. $124 is a really good price for the endless possibilities one could use this 3-in-1 wireless network product......btw I speed tested the connections, watched video (google video, Youtube) while roaming around the house and it never dropped a signal.

it is now 11-28-2008 and this product has been running non stop since the original review..

"Easy Installation - Don't use the included software" 2009-12-10

I bought this because my old Linksys wireless PCI-Adapter didn't support WPA encryption and lucky for me when I start looking for it Amazon had it on a 25.99 deal, which was a steal.

The card works just like you would expect it. Make sure the antenna points up in order to get the most networks, including your home network, to show up. Even if you are new to computers, this card can be easily installed. I recommend that you put connect the card to your motherboard, and when you boot Windows and you see the New Hardware wizard, put the CD that is included in your CD drive and then have the Windows New Hardware Wizard find the "drivers automatically." This way, the wizard pulls it from the CD and you don't have to install the annoying Linksys software.

In case you're wondering what the software does, it simply shows you the strength of your signal, let's you connect to networks, and allows you to disable wireless until next reboot. Windows does all this already, so the software becomes a hassle and unnecessary.

But as I said, the card works just as you would expect it. Nothing more, nothing less.

I followed the advice of another reviewer here and installed the card without installing the software first. This was a mistake. The card was not detected. I installed the software and then I had to take the card out, boot up, shut down, and put it back in before it was detected. At that point everything was automatic. Using Windows XP. The reception is great. Much better than the Netgear WRT311 I was using.

The 2 Linksys routers I received from Amazon December 17, 2009 each came with one CD and no other documentation. So I tried to use the CD's to set the routers up. Unfortunately these CD's don't work with Windows 7. I managed to contact Linksys support, but all they had to offer is some VERY difficult written instructions which offered only a barebones, far-from-complete installation.

I used this for 3 months before upgrading to Windows 7. Don't know if the upgrade had an effect, but the router never worked well after that. I spent about 8 hours with Linksys and they wound up blaming AT&T. Spent more hours with AT&T who were quick to blame Linksys. Dead end here and no guarantee. I wound up buying an AT&T modem/router which installed easily and works fine so far. Beware using this router if you have AT&T DSL.

Bought this router and tried to set it up. Couldn't get it to work after spending an hour on the phone with the Linksys support people. They finally said it was defective. Went back to the store to return this router, and bought another one (same model). Same story! Spent another hour on the phone with Linksys; this second router didn't work either. The Linksys support person said this router was also defective. Returned this second router -- total time spent: 4 hours including travel to and from the store twice. And still no router.

Solution: went to a different store and bought a Netgear router. The Netgear router worked beautifully right out of the box. It took 5 minutes to set up. It's also much more classy looking than the Linksys router.

Moral of the story: DON"T BUY this lousy Linksys router. As I look at the reviews posted here, it seems that more and more people have had trouble with the current Linksys routers. I'd recommend you check out the NETGEAR routers instead!

I was a little nervous to set up my netbook for wireless internet access after looking at thousands of negative reviews about these prodcuts. I decided that the setup of wireless modems in general seems to be a major aggravation.

I don't do well with tech customer service people so I held my breath as I went through the prompts waiting for the Netgear setup to fail and dreading dialing a 1-800 number to India or wherever.

Turns out that setup was a piece of cake. Out of the box and onto the wireless internet in less than 5 minutes. A 9-year old can set this up. No joke. (I have a 3 year old Dell desktop and new ASUS netbook).

I'm thrilled with this product and manufacturer. Netgear makes this very easy to set up and easy to use and after 2 months, the speed hasn't changed and I haven't been disconnected once (sound of wood knocking). Buy it, you'll thank me later and recommend it to friends.

Bought this router as a refurbished model. My wife purchased a new iPod Touch and she wanted the WiFi in the house. I was a bit concerned how far the signal would reach (through walls, down the hall, etc...) but so far it's working just fine! Easy to install. I did have a little trouble setting it up but I'm not the IT man of the year. It took me about an hour (going online to get instructions and help) - that's not too bad. For the money this one is serving us well.

This is an awesome router with one serious flaw. It drops the wireless constantly (this is with multiple laptops and iphones). Evidently this is a problem with the router because if you cycle the power it will work again for a few days.

I have a number of PCs running XP, Vista, 7, and linux (Ubuntu, Fedora), spread throughout 2 floors in 2500+ sq ft of walls and rooms. The actual network setup, including the wireless access/filters took under 5 minutes, and the difference in signal and speed compared to my previous two routers (Motorola 802.11g with one antenna, and an AirLink 802.11n (draft) with 3 antennas) is unbelievable. Both the signal strength and the transmittal rate are at least twice as good as before (no special antennas / boosters are used; the network cards are all low budget or built-in)!

I bought this product used on Amazon, and although the seller claimed "Open box item: like new," the product arrived very much looking used and worn out... The fact that the shipper did not even bother resetting the router password was extremely annoying, especially since it took me over 40 minutes of trying every trick in the book (short of opening up the unit and resetting the CMOS) to finally get the router to reset. Once I reset the router, everything was up and running in 5 min. (default user id/pw: admin/password). This is how I finally succeeded in resetting the unit: Turn the unit off using the off button in the back, press in the reset button and hold it, turn the unit back on while still pressing reset and hold it for exactly 10 seconds, release the reset button. I had to try this a handful of times until the unit finally started normally (the other times, it would simply freeze and had to be restarted). Other forms of reset (but just pressing w/out powering off, or by holding on to the reset button for 20 seconds, as NETGEAR suggests) did not work for me.

What a pain the a**. After about 2 weeks of working OK, this thing starts randomly dumping connected devices and (sometimes) re-connecting them. Not just the wirelessly attached devices either-- even the plugged-in devices. Computers, wireless printers, USB network hubs-- it's not picky. Log into the router, and it can't even tell you when something is attached. Some devices continue to work, while it can't even tell you that they are attached. Too bad I tossed my old 'G' router that was working fine. Since I'm outside of the 30-day store return policy, I have to decide if I want to eat the $80 and just go buy a new router or fight the maze of Netgear warranty return policy. I'm sure the erratic behaviour of this P.O.S. will result in them claiming its fine and sending it back to me. By the way, the "Push 'N' Connect" feature never did work, and yes the connecting device is compatible. Bummer, I was used to good products from Netgear....I guess I'll move on now.

I got this router for free with laptop purchase, and have had lots of issues with it since then. Firstly, my wife has a mac, and setting up this router using a mac is almost impossible! Secondly, ever since we set it up we are constantly having issues with no wireless router showing up and having to unplug it and replug it in inorder to reset (i didnt want to reset the whole system by pressing reset). DO NOT SPEND MONEY ON THIS ROUTER!

This router is very inexpensive and was easy to install on my Windows XP PC. The instructions were written in a clear manner and made it easy for me to set up my own password and networking controls. I loved the range of the router and how I had Internet access in my backyard by my pool. It was amazing, but the excitement was short lived. My router now only gives me access to the web in two rooms. I've tried reseting it and called D-Link for tech support. They did help me with many other previous issues, but once they told me to update the firmware, my router problems just got worse. My MacBook Pro never gets a signal and I've only had this router for two months. Spend your money on a better router! It will save you tons of headaches.

When I first got the box I was like man the this box is small and lightweight(and it sure is).Now I can't say how long it will last because I only had it since May,but so for its working so for except for the lag I get every now and then.I will tell you this,I paid $35 back in May so for something that cheap(as far as routers go)well,I wont jinx it,but I fear the end is near!

this is easy to use, easy setup. connection is fine. I use BT, and the download speed is also good. Only one complain, regarding to all those lights blinking on the router, I have no idea what those refers to. There is no description or a short note inside the package. As long as it works, I'm satisfied!

This wireless router replaced an older single antenna, slower model from another vendor. So far this new D-Link is great.

First, the ports are well labeled, all the connections were obvious and easy.

Next, configuring the router through the web interface was simple. The router has a ton of configuration options but the wizards made setup easy and the options were well explained in the PDF manual to make changes. It connected just great to my DSL modem and immediately was online.

The web configuration itself is fast too, that's especially nice when you're setting up a router the first time and have a lot of changes. My old router had a slow configuration page, D-Links is great.

The wired ports work great work great with no configuration required. I've easily connected multiple wireless clients to it (phones, gaming system, and laptop). All told, it's just what a wireless router should be: simple, fast, and hopefully forgotten for a long time now.

I bought this router 2/09 after returning an off-brand that wouldn't work with Dell laptop unless hardwired (kinda defeated the purpose). Due to my own fault I didn't return the other product within the grace period but Amazon was Amazing in giving me close to a full refund anyway. I decided to buy this router because my old wifi router was a D-Link and it had worked flawlessly for 9 years. In fact it was still working, but not at full speed and would often cause me to have to Repair my connection on start-up. Anyway after nearly 8 months the new D-Link has operated perfectly. I have used it with a Dell Laptop, an HP laptop, an HP desktop and a Toshiba laptop. The range allows me to sit outside, 75 feet from where the router is placed and is always blazing fast. The set-up was a breeze and took 10 minutes or less. I spent 2 days with tech support trying to get the Off-brand unit to work hardwired to my desktop and another 3 days for wifi. Also spent a day with Dell tech - they even had me pull my laptop modemn (a total nightmare)! I learned my lesson the hard way. I'll stick to D-Link from now on.

I moved and my roommate used this router. Its very unreliable and the range is poor. I couldn't add a password because it kept locking up when i accessed the router configuration page. I contacted linksys asking for some written troubleshooting help and they responded by giving me a fee based support phone number. I dug out my old WRT54G (at least 5 years old now) and now im up and running.

Do not buy this router unless you only need it to work for the next 365 days. I have had 2 of these routers and they both stopped working after a year of service. The Ethernet ports were the first to go, then the voice quality got bad, then the wireless connection went. I'm a software/network engineer so hopefully you can just take my word for it and the other 1 star reviews. This product is very seductive because it combines VoIP, Wireless and Ethernet Router all in one box but you're better off getting the best in class of each product. At least Vonage will give me $30 towards the purchase of a new phone adapter if I send in my latest paperweight.

Everyone else has said it all and with far more tech knowledge. Constant wireless and phone issues. I have had Vonage for 4 years and almost every router dies on me. The WRTP54G has been a problem since day one. Vonage blames the Linksys device and Linksys says it is because of my ISP/Vonage.

Hard to believe so many people had problems with this device.

Well for me i had replaced my old Thomson usb ADSL modem as i was loosing my internet connection every few hours.

So i decided to switch to Linksys Wireless Adsl router.

I m not a techsavy person,so i was very afraid if i had to any configuration.

I have several devices that require internet connection.

1.PC

2.Wireless Laptop

3.Voip Phone

4.PS3

But i just put in the cd ,and followed the instructions.do not plug in the cables before reading the instructions on the cd.

Put in my ISP login id and password and also entered my wireless network name and password.Also it asked me to select my ISP provider

And voila everything was connected and internet was working.

Its been running for 2 days now ,without any hitches.

PS .. my wireless laptop is connecting to the internet at excellent speeds and it is in another room which is 15 mts away on the same floor

I too had issues when I purchased this in January 2006. After lots of searching I found out the firmware in mine had to be updated. My original firmware version was 1.00.18 . I upgraded to firmware version 1.00.59 , on January 24, 2006. It is now March 8, 2009 and this router and vonage has been working excellent the entire time. I just happened to cruise by this page looking for another one for my son's apartment. They work great, easy to configure, and I will get another one. By the way, it is wireless G. If you think you need N or something faster then find it. When I want serious speed I go wired. For those of you thinking you want built in USB, I just use a wired (works better than wireless) Linksys PSUS4 print server hooked to one of the ports, then to my HP printer. So I have the benefit of wireless G and wireless printing, with the speed of wired. Cox cable with Motorola surfboard SB5101.

Hi Guys.

First off I do want to point out that Linksys/Cisco has updated the firmware on this badboy to address the overheating issues. They have also moved forward to supply a second revision to this router (V2) which deals better with these issues and also greatly extends range and throughput of signals.

Currently I am using this as a conduit for all my network activity. I work heavily with very large H264 encoded files so I need a very fat internal pipe to get this data back and fourth. With this thing I am getting 12MB/s throughput to a mac located on the other side of 18" thick firewalling.

I have never seen a stronger signal in my life when it comes to transmission rates. Internal rates are amazing as are the hard wire gigabit connections.

The only con I would say would be that this USB connection can not be used as a printer connection ( that I know of ) and the filesystem support for USB NETDISK support only allows for FAT32 partition. This FAT32 is really the standard for network mounts - I would just be happier seeing something like EXT3 support here or even MACOS support as I have all sorts of uses I will be throwing at this thing.

The only comperable router on the market is sold by mac for roughly the same price so make your comparisons before buying.

I bought this router on last november, the startup was ok, i was replacing my old and great linksys wrt54gs, some minutes after using it, i lost all connections, when i check the router, i was very hot, and all the setup returns to factory default, i repeat al the setup process, but after some minutes it happens again.

On january Linksys published a firmware update, i applyed this firmware, the router starts working better, after 10 days all connections came out LAN and Wireless, the temperature of the router was ok, but all setup returns to factiry default. I contacted Linksys support and check that there is a lot of people with the same problem, Linksys support indicates that there is no estimation for a new firmware release, they give a ticket numbre to return and exchange my router, this would be ok if i am in the US and have access to return it to Amazon, since i am out the US i am feeling really bad bacause of a bad product delivered to the market.

So i will wait for the next firmware update, or DD_WRT that is working on an alternate firmware version.
